Background

  • I grew up in Corpus Christi spending most of my time sailing. Got interested in coral reefs and scuba diving while racing sailboats from Galvestion, Texas to Vera Cruz, Mexico in 1972. My one regret in life was not spending the summer after high school sailing around the Caribbean. After getting a divorce in the early 90's I took up scuba diving, underwater photography, and got my Master's captains liscense. In 2002 after getting remarried, my wife Kathy and I took off 6 months to working as a boat captain and cook on a 75 foot sailboat in the Bahamas (payback for my only regret). After returning to Corpus Christi after that experince, due to family health issues, I decided to change directions and return to school. That is in short how one starts with a Pharmacy degree and ends up studing coral reefs for both a Masters and Ph D.
