Geo ArchivesThis page is primarily going to be used to keep the main site clean-looking. It will just be previous announcements and information, in case we wish to reference it later. Old News May Elections!!!Hello Geo-Club/SGE, Just wanted to drop a line about what's going on in the Geology Club and SGE, for the end of semester is catching up with us. First of all, we need to elect some officers for both SGE and Geology club. I want to encourage all you to participate as much as possible for so many reasons. It's not only a great way to interact with other geologists, earth scientist, or outdoors persons, but you can also develop skills that can help you further along in the professional and academic fields. I hope you'll take the time to consider this, or if you know of someone you would like to nominate, please don't hesitate. So far we have running for offices in the Geology Club are: President-Daisie Young Vice President-Lesley Byatt Treasurer-Bobby Mc Coy Secretary-Joseph Hancock USCO Rep-Samantha Smith And for SGE: President-Lesley Byatt Vice President-? Treasurer-? Secretary-? USCO Rep-? We need the nominations in by the end of the week in order to get a vote on the run-off positions. So let me know ASAP. The election will be held via email Monday and Tuesday next week (April 30-May 1). Please email your vote to me stating your name and the name of the person/position you are voting for. We will announce the results at the end of the year event to announce the new officers, and wish everyone the best of summer, and beyond. I'll do my best to keep you all posted, and I hope you will do the same to give some feedback about any ideas for our clubs. Looking forward to hearing from you. Willie Vera Geology Club President Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi January 07 Hey Geology Club Members, Hope everyone had a great winter break. Well the spring semester is now in full swing and to kick it off, we will have our first meeting at B&J’s Pizza, Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 6:30pm. We will be discussing our fundraiser and possible locations for our Spring Geology Club trip. We have really cool things planned this semester. On February 15th, a local professional Geologist, rather than speak in a classroom, has invited the club to come over to his place and have a show and tell of sorts. We also have another speaker lined up for the month of April. Also, this is our cabinet’s last semester in office. You have all semester to think about it, but put it now in the back of your mind now about an office position you’d like to run for. Elections will be at the end of April then announced in early May. Well, I’ll see you guys at the meetings. If you know of anybody interested in the club, feel free to invite them. We are open to all majors and still have no dues for membership. It’s never too late to join. Also SGE (Sigma Gamma Epsilon) is a Science Honor Society that also meets at our meetings. If interested, come to a meeting and join us. Great Resume Builder! Thanks for all you support, and we look to have another productive and FUN semester. Later, WV October 2006 Hello again, I would like to thank all the Club Members for such a great turnout, and I'm really excited about all the support and what we can achieve with the Geology Club these next couple of semesters. Our Club now has a total of 35 members, the most ever! Geology Club and SGE will host our first guest speaker of the year, Owen Hopkins, who works professionally as an Exploration Geologist and has published works on 3D seismic cases on the Gulf Coast Basins. He should shed some light on the oil and gas industry, and where it will be headed in the future (looks like good news for us undergrads!). Should be very interesting! Here is information on our next two meetings: http://Sci.tamucc.edu/wiki/Events/Events 10/11/2006 Geology Club 7:00 PM-9:00 PM UC Tarpon Room 323 Next, T-shirts and Sweaters are in! Bring your money to the next meeting, I will be handing them out. We will also be discussing fund raising ideas, and talking more about participation opportunities for the Club. Also The Geology Club will be hosting another interesting speaker the following week, her name is Emily Poore and she is a member of SCA's Admissions staff. She will be visiting Texas A&M on Thursday, Oct 19th, 7pm UC Tejas room 106C. SCA offers thousands of expense-paid conservation internships in public lands around the country each year. You could spend 12 weeks to 12 months in an intership gaining hands on experience in your chosen field of study. Learn about environmental internship opportunities nationwide where you can get hands-on conservation experience in the field while giving something back to the world. Come hear Emily's story and learn how you can get involved. Thanks again to everyone for staying active in the Club, and I'll keep you updated o anything new. -WV SUMMER 2006 ANNOUNCMENTS Hello Geology Club! Come join me if you have time. Good luck wrapping up this semester! Zack Issues this semester: OUTREACH: This is the only still hanging goal from last term. I would like to see us really gear our club as an appealing, active club to attract new members. We have more geology students than ever in Physical and Historical Geology, and all we have to do is convince them to switch... Easy, right? Send any new ideas/goals to Jared's attention. Have a great semester!!! Zack Well we are beginning the Spring 2003 semester, and it is with bitter-sweet excitement that I declare it my last. I'll miss you guys more than anything. I am looking into the Colorado School of Mines for graduate work in Hydrogeology. I promise you that I will post a page with advice for those who are graduating (there is a great deal that you need to know which no one will tell you until the last minute) and advice for field camp (what to focus on in your studies and what you'll want to take with you). I'd also like to put into a recommendation for the OSU field camp, for such obvious reasons as 1) No out of state tuition fees 2) Weekends off for camping and rock-hounding 3) An incredible faculty, great food in the mess hall and a neat little basecamp and 4) Lots of neat field trips to places like mines to refresh you during your field-work. Heather R. There is a lot more to come so please check back! Heather R.
A new year is upon us!
